The Tainui trees at Nell's Dell

A grove of rare trees found on a short suburban access way in 2021, later recognised as the largest of their kind in New Zealand.

Nell’s Dell is an unremarkable piece of ground on the face of it, a short access way between Owen Place and Ōmokoroa Road that the footpath detours through.

In October 2021 a grove of rare Tainui trees was discovered growing there. They have since been declared the largest specimens of the species in New Zealand.

Lizard News, the local fortnightly paper, reported the find at the time.
